I am a highly motivated, experienced professional in the field of English-Spanish-French teaching, material design and effective classroom management. I am a goal-oriented teacher, passionate writer, lecturer, language researcher and author. I have written two books of resources for teachers and I am currently working on the second version of those two books.

My educational background comprises a B.A. in “Language Teaching” from Universidad del Valle (Colombia, 1985), a Specialization Degree in “University Teaching” from Universidad USC (Colombia, 1998), an English proficiency diploma from Centro Colombo Americano (Colombia, 1983), English Studies in Literature, Grammar and Composition from Catawba Valley Community College (NC, USA, 1990), and a MA in TEFL from Universidad Unini (USA-Pto Rico, 2013).

I have taught and designed languages teaching materials for the last 28 years in Colombia and foreign countries such as the USA and Saudi Arabia. Some of these jobs have been in the public education and the private sector with children, adolescents, and adults in their different levels of Second Language Learning performance.

I have always been successful in my career in the sense that I use appropriate and effective strategies and materials to get the best out of every student, and all this based in part on my own experience as a student of foreign languages; this fact has given me a lot of hints to understand and then effectively tackle all the struggles my students go through. Finally, I feel I have the charisma and the sense of humor to understand and handle all kinds of situations effectively. .

Testimonials

checkmark“A key characteristic of a successful exchange teacher is adaptability. Mr. Martinez was asked to begin teaching in his host school immediately after arrival in the U.S. During this initial period, he had to adapt to a new culture and education system, locate housing, make automobile arrangements, buy furniture, secure a driver`s license and Social Security number, and adjust to new demands and routines. Mr. Martinez`s ability to adapt to new, different, and unexpected circumstances is a significant skill and an asset which should serve him well in future employment situations. In conclusion, by becoming a VIF teacher, Carlos Arbey Martinez has taken on a significant challenge and we are appreciative of the contributions he has made to his students, school, and community. We wish him success in all his future endeavors.”

checkmark“Mr. Martinez has become a professional teacher of English both at the high school level and at the college level. He continues to be a very studious scholar very much concerned about his profession as well as his students` learning. In recent years, Mr. Martinez and I worked as colleagues teaching English at Universidad Icesi. I thus witnessed his concern about improving both his own learning and his teaching. I find him really committed to his job. ”
