My philosophy of education is
that I want the children to be excited about learning and
for each child like he/she is a success at what he/she
attempts. Under this umbrella of learning, I want to give
them guided experiences in all subject matters as I design
lessons to meet their individual abilities. I have had
substantial experience working with Kindergartners up
through 3rd grade. I love working with these ages. They are
so excited about coming to school. I love watching their
eyes light up as they meet new learning experiences. I
believe that outstanding teachers are those who actively
engage their students, keep up on new teaching ideas, and
evaluate them as to how they can be adapted to their
classrooms for successful learning. They have good classroom
management skills and well planned lessons to motivate and
inspire their students to learn. These are the teachers who
are team players, working with their colleagues to make
everyday a successful fun learning experience for their
students. I strive to meet all of these expectations in
every way and would hope that I would bring these attributes
to your school if hired.
My teaching style leans
towards the constructivist style, with much of my experience
in child based, centered themed approaches to education. My
specialized areas have been concentrated what Americans call
Kindergarten (ages 5-6) ,first grade (ages 6-7 where I have
used manipulative based math programs, basal reading series,
whole language programs hands on science programs and spent
several years working with phonics based reading materials.
I have been trained in and used Dibels Reading Assessments,
as well as the Rigby Reading program and assessments. I have
used portfolios, student led conferences (performance based)
. I have served on district wide committees for developing a
first grade standards based report card, district
technology, and
Some of the most meaningful
teaching experiences I had were teaching in Weimar at
Thuringia International School (which included children of
many nationalities and I worked with the PYP curriculum and
Inquiry methods of teaching. I only had 2 native English
speakers in my class), teaching in France on a U.S. Force
Base, and then being transferred to then U.S. Embassy School
in Bonn, Germany. (This was a multilingual environment where
at least 1/3 of the class spoke little English. We worked
with diplomatic families in the area). I was married in Bad
Godesbeg and returned to the United States, where I retired
from, teaching in Alaska. Our family loves Europe and all of
the cultural experiences it brings. If you look at my
Curriculum Vitae you will see the many reasons I love
teaching. I believe I have the experiences to work with the
clientele of your school.
